Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
Images in our minds create triggers that can provoke physical and emotional symptoms. What if you could eliminate those troubling images? What if you could remove the source of distress that leads to the domino effect of negative feelings such as panic and anxiety? I can help you do just that, and quickly—often in just 1 to 4 sessions—with Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).

What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an eye movement treatment designed for rapid results. It employs a unique approach that utilizes guided eye movements to help individuals effectively process distressing memories and emotions. Unlike traditional therapies, ART can lead to tangible results in fewer sessions and is specifically designed to alleviate the burdens experienced by anyone, particularly those in high-stress, high-trauma exposure professions like first responders. The goal of ART is to minimize distressing bodily sensations and anxiety symptoms by replacing disturbing images with pleasant ones. In ART, a predetermined set of eye movements is used to reconsolidate distressing images related to traumatic events and replace them with positive imagery.

Why Choose ART?
-
Faster Results: Many individuals experience relief in as little as one session. ART provides immediate coping mechanisms and tools for managing distressing symptoms caused by images from past traumas, allowing for a quicker return to stability and function. The brevity of the treatment protocol—combined with no requirement for detailed narration of traumatic events—has made ART a compelling first-line PTSD treatment option for active-duty and veteran military personnel in VA and DoD facilities.

When is ART a Good Option?
-
If you are motivated and seeking an effective resolution to distressing symptoms.
-
If traditional therapy methods have not provided the results you need.
-
If you have a busy schedule and want to minimize the number of therapy sessions required.

What Can ART Treat?
ART has been successfully used with clients dealing with a variety of distressing issues. More common challenges for which people seek ART include:
-
Trauma symptoms (nightmares, intrusive thoughts, hypervigilance, panic attacks, etc.)
-
Phobias
-
High anxiety
-
Grief/complicated grief

Is This EMDR?
No, ART is not EMDR, but it is derived from EMDR principles, which results in many similarities. Both aim to reduce distress, allowing individuals to recall traumatic events without experiencing symptoms of distress and to improve daily functioning. However, the two therapeutic approaches differ in their methods and applications:
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is primarily used to treat trauma and PTSD. The treatment typically lasts 6 to 12 sessions or more, depending on the severity of the issues. It involves clients recalling a distressing memory while simultaneously undergoing bilateral stimulation, such as side-to-side eye movements or tapping.
-
ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) is designed to treat trauma and various other conditions much more quickly, often in just 1 to 4 sessions, with many individuals finding relief in just one. ART uses directed guided imagery and aims to replace distressing images with positive ones while incorporating eye movements.
